FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

URI COLLEGE OF BUSINESS STUDENTS SELECTED COMPETE IN NATIONAL MARKETING CHALLENGE

Kingston, RI (March 18, 2019) - Students in Dr. Christy Ashley’s Strategic Marketing Management class at The University of Rhode Island were selected to participate in a national marketing competition, the Acura ILX Marketing Challenge.   As part of the competition, students will create and implement an integrated marketing campaign, which utilizes a $2,000 budget and includes an event on campus that showcases the new, 2019 Acura ILX.

Together, the class has tackled this real world assignment with excitement. The class has divided itself into teams such as public relations team, research, advertising, strategy and implementation team. Each team is held accountable for completing new tasks each week. Overall the class’ objectives are to increase awareness on the Acura brand, educate the target market of the dynamic features of the 2019 Acura ILX, and increase purchase consideration within the target market. All of these objectives will be achieved through the class’ marketing efforts, which will emphasize students’ social media marketing skills.

Michelle Kutsyk, a senior marketing major from Brooklyn, New York, displayed excitement about participating in the project. She stated “I am already so confident in the group of individuals I will be participating in the Acura ILX Marketing Challenge with.” She continued that “this opportunity will challenge us and strengthen our marketing skills to set us up for success in our future business careers.”

The students’ campaign slogan is “Level Up” because being a student at URI means always thinking outside the box and never settling for average. These individuals are always looking to level up their A-game in and outside of the classroom. They are working with influencers including Will Leviton, Class of 2019 Marketing major from Providence, RI and URI Basketball Player (@showtime_willy) and Miranda Zangara (@thisismirandalynn), Class of 2018 graduate who is a model and aspiring actress in Los Angeles, California.

Students will get to experience the 2019 Acura ILX on campus as part of the campaign. Students will provide updates about the campaign on their Instagram page: @RhodyPerform
